The Foreign Relations Department of the Industrial University of Santander (UIS) held a recreational and cultural welcome event at Casona La Perla for incoming exchange students and language assistants who will be participating in academic activities at the institution.

The purpose of the meeting was to facilitate their adaptation to university life and the different services and environments offered by the University. During the day, research interns, exchange students, and language assistants shared experiences, presented cultural aspects of their countries of origin, and expressed their expectations for their stay at the UIS.

“The objective of this activity is to integrate exchange students into our UIS community and inform them of the benefits they can access as students, including the dining hall service, institutional ID card, and university residences. Our intention is for them to feel at home and not like visitors,” said Liliana del Pilar Castro Molano, director of External Relations at UIS.

They emphasized that these types of spaces strengthen the University’s internationalization strategy, which has made it possible to expand academic exchange opportunities for both UIS students and young people from different countries.

“We are very pleased with the results of the work we have been doing. We have now increased the number of UIS students participating in exchanges in European countries, and at the same time, we continue to receive a significant number of students from countries such as Germany and France,” added Castro Molano.

For their part, incoming exchange students expressed their gratitude for the welcome offered by the University and pointed out that these types of activities help them adapt to the city and academic life.

“The welcome was very pleasant. The people at UIS and in Colombia are very friendly, and I found the campus to be very beautiful and full of green areas,” said Laura Ehrler, an exchange student in the Master’s program in Social Intervention.

They also highlighted the academic quality of the institution and the experience of the professors with whom they have begun their educational process.

“The classes I have taken so far have been excellent. It is clear that the professors are experts in their fields and have extensive research experience. In addition, the people at UIS have been very kind to us foreigners,” said Joao Pedro Miranda, a doctoral intern in Chemistry.
