The Universidad Industrial de Santander (UIS) continues to strengthen its leadership in Colombia’s public higher education system. The Ministry of National Education has granted the university official accreditation to offer its Food Engineering undergraduate program in an on-campus format in the municipalities of Barbosa (Santander) and Saravena (Arauca), further expanding its academic presence across the country’s regions.

The authorization, formalized through Resolution No. 017145 of June 30, 2026, marks another important milestone for the university, reinforcing its commitment to providing high-quality higher education in territories where access to university education has historically been limited.

A Program Designed to Drive Regional Development

The program, created under Academic Council Agreement No. 353 of December 9, 2025, will include 128 academic credits, an estimated duration of eight semesters, and semiannual admissions. Each intake will enroll 40 students in Barbosa and 30 students in Saravena, enabling dozens of young people to pursue a professional degree without leaving their home regions.

According to the University’s Office of the President, led by Rector Hernán Porras Díaz, the achievement reflects the collaborative efforts of the UIS Barbosa Campus, the Institute for Regional Outreach and Distance Education, and the various institutional departments that worked together to meet the rigorous requirements established by the Ministry of National Education to obtain official accreditation.

The launch of the Food Engineering program not only expands UIS’s academic portfolio but also responds to the productive and social needs of two regions with significant agro-industrial potential. The new degree aims to prepare professionals capable of promoting the transformation of raw materials, strengthening food security, and fostering innovation to support regional development.

UIS Reaffirms Its Commitment to Public Higher Education

With this achievement, the Universidad Industrial de Santander (UIS) reaffirms its mission to democratize access to public higher education by bringing knowledge, science, and opportunities to more Colombians, further consolidating its position as one of the country’s leading universities committed to regional development.

UIS continues to grow by delivering academic excellence where it is needed most, demonstrating that Colombia’s future is also being built from its regions.
