UIS students tour construction site of the new university campus at the Málaga

Sede UIS Málaga

From the Málaga campus of the Universidad Industrial de Santander (UIS), student representatives conducted a technical visit to the construction site of the new university campus, regarded as one of the most significant regional infrastructure projects currently being carried out by the institution. The visit provided first-hand insight into the physical and structural progress that reinforces the University’s commitment to strengthening public higher education in northeastern Colombia.

The tour was led by architect Pascual Cortes, who is in charge of the project, and engineer Davinson Bonilla, who explained the technical details and the progress achieved in the different areas of the campus. Also participating were Omar Oviedo, engineer of the physical plant, and Sandra Díaz, campus coordinator, in an institutional support exercise that reaffirms the University’s open-door policy and ongoing dialogue with the academic community.

One of the spaces that drew the most attention was the auditorium, conceived as an emblematic venue within the new university complex. This facility will feature state-of-the-art technology and high-quality equipment, positioning itself as an academic, cultural, and scientific meeting point for the region. For more than two hours, student leaders toured each of the completed and ongoing areas, learning in detail about the adaptations and improvements that will provide suitable environments for academic, research, and outreach activities.

The visit also made it possible to highlight the structural changes implemented since the University assumed oversight of the project, a factor that, according to attendees, has marked significant progress in the execution of the construction. This monitoring process strengthens institutional transparency and consolidates trust between the administration and the student body.

At the end of the meeting, student representatives emphasized the institution’s willingness to listen to their concerns and actively support the growth of the regional campus. In this context, student representative Jesús Ochoa stated: “Se ve con buenos ojos el avance que ha tenido la infraestructura, la disposición que ha tenido también la Universidad de escuchar nuestras peticiones”.

The visit reaffirms UIS’s commitment to regional and community development, as well as to the consolidation of modern spaces that respond to the current needs of higher education. The new campus in Málaga not only represents an infrastructure improvement but also a strategic effort to expand academic opportunities, strengthen the institution’s presence in the territory, and ensure optimal conditions for the comprehensive education of future generations.
