Students of the Bachelor’s Degree Program in Literature and Spanish Language of the Universidad Industrial de Santander (UIS) culminated the subject Pedagogical Research Practice III, after directing five short plays, performed by students of the Dámaso Zapata Educational Institution. The objective of this initiative was to strengthen the writing, reading and oral expression skills of the young people.
“This staging is the result of the practice we carried out during three semesters. First we identified the main shortcomings in the classroom, oral expression being the most evident. Therefore, we decided to mediate pedagogically through theater to strengthen their skills, especially to combat shyness,” said Juan David Osma, a student of the Bachelor’s Degree in Literature and Spanish Language.
The UIS students emphasized that behind the creation of these plays, which reflect the tastes, fears and desires of young people, there is a deep work that addresses various important aspects of their academic training.
“Working on a theatrical script requires writing and reading activities, therefore, not only oral expression is encouraged. In addition, going out to perform in other spaces represents challenges that they overcome little by little, assuming greater responsibilities,” said Sol Ramón, a student in the program.

This experience was also enriching for the future graduates, who put into practice pedagogical tools that they will be able to perfect and apply in different educational scenarios.
“As future teachers, this experience leaves us with great lessons. It is evident that the process requires hard work, but we also discovered dynamic strategies that we can apply in the classroom, generating a pleasant and effective relationship with the students,” added Jim Rangel, also a student of the Bachelor’s Degree in Literature and Spanish Language.
Finally, the high school students thanked the UIS and their future graduates for the commitment, dedication and use of innovative tools in their learning process.
“I think it is a great contribution of the UIS and its students to use so many dynamics for us to learn,” commented Ana Ordoñez, a student of the Dámaso Zapata Educational Institution.
“To make this play we did a lot of research, we reviewed information on the internet and watched movies. With these plays we learn a lot, especially in reading comprehension, which helps us to be more fluent in public speaking,” said Jackson Rey, a student at the same institution.
