Sheyla Pardo Gonzalez, resident of the postgraduate course in Internal Medicine, participated in the XXI Congress of the Faculty of Health Sciences UNAB, IV Congress of Internal Medicine Residents – XII International 2025, held from June 10 to 12, 2025.
During the event he took second place in the poster modality in the research contest, in the Preliminary Results category, with the research entitled: “Adverse experiences during childhood and its relationship with functional gastrointestinal diseases”.
This is a pioneering study in the region and the country, which shows that the cumulative burden of adverse experiences in childhood is related to the presence of functional gastrointestinal diseases, which are characterized by chronic, fluctuating symptoms and high disease burden, finding much higher prevalences compared to those reported so far in the world literature, which underlines the importance of early intervention with an interdisciplinary approach with psychosocial assessment tools in the comprehensive care of these patients.
The event was held in the city of Bucaramanga and was attended by international professors from the Mayo Clinic in the United States, as well as professors from the country and the region.
