Construction of the future Universidad Industrial de Santander (UIS) campus in Saravena has reached 25% completion. The project aims to expand access to higher education for young people in Arauca and strengthen the University’s presence across the region.

The Universidad Industrial de Santander (UIS) continues to make progress in the development of its future campus in Saravena, Arauca. This strategic project will help expand higher education opportunities and create new pathways for professional training for young people in the municipality and the surrounding region.

Monitoring construction progress

As part of the project’s monitoring process, a site visit was carried out with the participation of Arauca Governor Renson Martínez; Saravena Mayor Juan Ignacio Cifuentes Santos; representatives from the departmental and municipal administrations; social managers; community members; and teams involved in the development of the initiative. Representing UIS was Jorge Villamizar, UIS Territories Coordinator, who highlighted the importance of continuing to coordinate efforts to make this institutional project a reality.

“Construction of the future campus is currently 25% complete, reflecting the joint efforts of the institutions involved in its execution and their commitment to bringing quality higher education to the regions,” Villamizar said.

Complementary works and new investments

During the visit, the Governor of Arauca announced that complementary works will soon begin. These are essential to ensure the proper operation and accessibility of the new campus. The interventions include the construction and improvement of access roads, electrical networks, water and sewage systems, urban development works, and parking areas.

In addition to these works, an announcement of particular importance for the well-being of the university community was made: the allocation of COP 7.5 billion for the construction of a sports complex. This infrastructure will strengthen spaces for physical activity, recreation, sports, and the comprehensive well-being of future students at the campus.

UIS strengthens its presence across the regions

For UIS, the construction of this infrastructure represents a significant step toward strengthening its regional presence and contributing, through higher education, to the social, economic, and cultural development of the territories.

The future Saravena campus is envisioned as a space that will bring the academic, scientific, and outreach capabilities of the Universidad Industrial de Santander closer to the communities of Arauca, providing new generations with greater access to professional training opportunities without having to leave their region.

The progress of the construction and the implementation of complementary works consolidate a commitment that goes beyond building physical infrastructure. It is about creating the conditions for higher education to become a driving force for transformation and development in Saravena and its surrounding area.

With the support of the Arauca Governor’s Office, the community, and the teams involved in the project, UIS continues to join forces to make this initiative a reality, reaffirming its commitment to public higher education that reaches more territories and helps create new opportunities for their communities.
