UIS ranks among Colombia’s leading universities for employability, according to QS Rankings

La UIS se ubica entre las universidades líderes de Colombia en empleabilidad, según Ranking QS

The Universidad Industrial de Santander (UIS) continues to strengthen its position as a leading institution in higher education, research, and talent development for regional and national progress. The results of the QS World University Rankings: Latin America & the Caribbean highlight the recognition earned by its graduates in the labor market and the impact of university education on the productive sector.

One of the indicators reflecting this performance is Employer Reputation, which accounts for 20% of the ranking’s overall assessment. This indicator is based on a survey in which executives and employers from different sectors evaluate the institutions from which professionals regarded as competent, innovative, and effective have graduated.

In this indicator, UIS achieved a score of 68.4, placing it ninth among Colombian universities and positioning it as the institution with the highest recognition in terms of employability in Santander and eastern Colombia.

UIS Talent Makes Its Mark on the Labor Market

This result is particularly significant considering that the University carries out most of its activities from Bucaramanga and Santander, outside the country’s major political and financial centers. Its presence among the Top 10 universities nationally demonstrates the recognition its professionals have earned beyond regional boundaries.

According to the University’s institutional analysis, employers particularly value the technical skills of UIS graduates in areas such as petroleum, chemical, civil, mechanical, and systems engineering, as well as in the exact and health sciences.

This recognition is complemented by an institutional tracking figure: 73.8% of UIS graduates enter the labor market within 15 months of completing their studies. This reflects both the employability of its professionals and the relevance of their education to the needs of the surrounding environment.

An Institutional Strategy to Strengthen Employability

This position is not solely the result of graduates’ performance, but also of the work the University has undertaken to strengthen the relationship between academia and the productive sector.

The UIS Institutional Alumni Program plays a fundamental role in this process. It has evolved from a model focused primarily on information gathering into a strategy aimed at actively connecting professionals, the University, and the broader productive sector.

Among the initiatives implemented is the consolidation of strategic partnerships and employment intermediation tools through specialized platforms and direct channels for disseminating corporate job opportunities. These tools enable students approaching graduation and alumni to find employment opportunities quickly, transparently, and free of charge, both in Colombia and in international markets.

Another key component is the strengthening of an ecosystem of support and entrepreneurship networks. Professional networks, initiatives that promote businesses led by graduates, and intergenerational mentoring programs such as the Plan Padrino help maintain a connected professional community and strengthen alumni ties with the institution.

This is complemented by the alignment between the needs of the productive sector and academic training. Ongoing engagement with sectors such as energy, industry, healthcare, technology, and services makes it possible to identify emerging professional demands and contribute to updating educational profiles in response to the challenges associated with technological transformation and the so-called Fourth Industrial Revolution.

Regional Public Education with National Impact

The achievement in the QS World University Rankings 2027 represents recognition of the talent educated at UIS and of the institution’s efforts to strengthen its graduates’ professional opportunities.

The University reaffirms the role of high-quality public education as a tool for social mobility and competitiveness. Employer recognition reflects the value of an education that combines technical and scientific knowledge with adaptability and problem-solving skills.

In this way, UIS continues to consolidate a strategy in which university education extends beyond the classroom and connects with the needs of the surrounding environment, while the Institutional Alumni Program strengthens the tools and networks necessary for its professionals to respond to the challenges of the national and international labor markets.
