The Universidad Industrial de Santander (UIS) continues to strengthen its position as a leading institution in higher education, research, and talent development for regional and national growth. The results of the QS World University Rankings: Latin America & the Caribbean highlight the recognition its graduates receive in the labor market and the impact of university education on the productive sector.

One of the indicators that demonstrates this performance is Employer Reputation, which accounts for 20% of the ranking’s overall assessment and is based on a survey in which executives and employers from different sectors evaluate the institutions from which professionals considered competent, innovative, and effective have graduated.

In this indicator, UIS received a score of 68.4, placing it ninth among universities in Colombia and making it the institution with the highest recognition for employability in Santander and eastern Colombia.

UIS talent makes its way into the labor market

This result is particularly significant considering that the University conducts most of its activities from Bucaramanga and Santander, outside the country’s major political and financial centers. Its presence in the national Top 10 demonstrates the recognition its professionals receive beyond regional borders.

According to the University’s institutional analysis, employers particularly value the technical skills of UIS graduates in fields such as petroleum, chemical, civil, mechanical, and systems engineering, as well as in the exact and health sciences.

This recognition is complemented by an institutional follow-up figure: 73.8% of UIS graduates enter the labor market within less than 15 months of completing their studies. This reflects the employability of its professionals and the relevance of their education to the needs of the surrounding environment.

An institutional strategy to strengthen employability

This position is not only the result of graduates’ performance, but also of the work the University has undertaken to strengthen the relationship between academia and the productive sector.

The UIS Institutional Alumni Program plays a fundamental role in this process. It has evolved from a model focused on collecting information into a strategy for active collaboration among professionals, the University, and the broader productive sector.

Among the initiatives implemented is the consolidation of strategic partnerships and job-matching tools through specialized portals and direct channels for disseminating corporate job opportunities. These tools enable students approaching graduation and alumni to find employment opportunities quickly, transparently, and free of charge, both in Colombia and in other markets.

Another component is the strengthening of a support and entrepreneurship network ecosystem. Professional networks, support for business initiatives led by graduates, and intergenerational mentoring programs, such as the Plan Padrino, help maintain a connected professional community and strengthen alumni’s ties with the institution.

This is complemented by coordination between the needs of the productive sector and academic training. Ongoing connections with sectors such as energy, industry, healthcare, technology, and services make it possible to identify emerging professional demands and contribute to updating educational profiles in line with the challenges associated with technological transformation and the so-called Fourth Industrial Revolution.

Regional public education with national impact

The result achieved in the QS World University Rankings 2027 represents recognition of the talent developed at UIS and of the institutional efforts aimed at strengthening graduates’ professional opportunities.

The University reaffirms the role of quality public education as a tool for social mobility and competitiveness. Employers’ recognition reflects the value of an education that combines technical and scientific knowledge with adaptability and problem-solving skills.

In this way, UIS continues to consolidate a strategy in which university education extends beyond the classroom and connects with the needs of its environment, while the UIS Institutional Alumni Program strengthens the tools and networks necessary for its professionals to respond to the challenges of the national and international labor markets.
