UIS professor to represent Colombia at REDBIOLAC International Meeting in Peru

Professor Liliana del Pilar Castro Molano, Director of External Relations at the Industrial University of Santander (UIS), has been selected to represent Colombia and the department of Santander at the 17th edition of the International Meeting of the Biodigester Network for Latin America and the Caribbean (REDBIOLAC), which will take place from November 3 to 6 at the Peruvian Union University, in the city of Juliaca, Peru.

This event brings together experts, researchers, academics, and professionals committed to the development of renewable energy in the region every year. On this occasion, Professor Castro will be one of the keynote speakers, sharing her experience in the field of anaerobic digestion, a technology that allows the production of biogas and biofertilizers from organic waste.

“I am delighted to be one of the speakers at this year’s event in Peru, where I will talk about the challenges of anaerobic digestion in cold climates and how to address them from the laboratory scale to the pilot and industrial scales,” said Professor Liliana Castro, who is also a researcher with the UIS Interfase Research Group.

This group has developed an 18-year track record of research in anaerobic digestion, which has consolidated the Industrial University of Santander as a leading institution in this field, both in Colombia and abroad. Thanks to this ongoing work, the UIS is an active member of REDBIOLAC, a network that promotes the exchange of knowledge and experiences regarding the sustainable use of biodigesters in Latin America and the Caribbean.

“As a researcher, I am proud to be recognized as a speaker at this important Latin American event and, as always, to uphold the good name of the UIS,” said Professor Castro, highlighting the importance of strengthening international scientific cooperation to address the region’s energy and environmental challenges.

The REDBIOLAC International Meeting will be a key platform for showcasing the UIS’s advances in clean technologies and its commitment to sustainable development in cold climate areas, where anaerobic digestion processes face more demanding conditions.

With this participation, the Industrial University of Santander reaffirms its leadership in applied research and its significant contribution to energy transformation in Latin America.
