Scientific research at the Industrial University of Santander takes a strategic step forward in the study and conservation of biodiversity. After successfully completing the process with the National Environmental Licensing Authority, the institution officially obtained the new Institutional Collection Framework Permit, granted by Resolution No. 001220 of April 24, 2026, corresponding to file RCM0004-00-2026.
With this achievement, effective as of May 13, 2026, the University is authorized for the next ten years to conduct activities involving the collection of biological diversity specimens for non-commercial scientific research purposes, thereby strengthening the work of its researchers and research groups in various ecosystems across the country.
For Vanessa Quiroga Arciniegas, Director of Knowledge Transfer, “this legal instrument represents a fundamental support for the development of fieldwork, the generation of new scientific knowledge, and the consolidation of research processes aimed at the conservation and characterization of biodiversity.”
The granting of this permit is the result of coordinated efforts between the Knowledge Transfer Office of the Vice-Rector’s Office for Research and Extension and 15 research groups at the University, affiliated with the programs in Biology, Forestry Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Medicine, Microbiology and Bioanalysis, and Chemistry.
The researchers’ commitment and the timely submission of technical and scientific information were key to meeting the requirements set by the environmental authority and making this important breakthrough possible, which strengthens the University’s capacity to lead biodiversity research with national and international impact.
“This permit not only strengthens the legal certainty of our field research but also reaffirms the University’s institutional commitment to science, biodiversity, and the country’s sustainable development,” noted the Director of Knowledge Transfer.
