The Universidad Industrial de Santander (UIS) welcomed academic peer reviewers appointed by the National Accreditation Council (CNA) as part of the external evaluation process for the renewal of the high-quality accreditation of its Master’s Program in Biomedical Basic Sciences.
This visit represents an opportunity to share the program’s progress, strengths, and challenges, as well as the commitment of the Faculty of Health and the Department of Basic Sciences to academic excellence, research, and the comprehensive education of professionals.
The Rector’s Office Council Room hosted the committee, made up of Jesús Armando Sánchez Godoy, coordinating peer reviewer, and Margarita María Velásquez Lopera, academic peer reviewer. During the meeting, they were introduced to UIS administrators who led the session, followed by the presentation of an institutional video.
Academic Peer Reviewers Visit UIS Facilities
Throughout the week, UIS administrators will present the work carried out by the program and lead visits to the University’s facilities. They include Jürg Niederbacher Velásquez, Dean of the Faculty of Health; Luis Miguel Sosa Ávila, Director of the School of Medicine; Fernando Rodríguez Sanabria, Director of the Department of Basic Sciences; Fabián Alejandro Gómez Torres, Graduate Programs Coordinator of the Department of Biomedical Basic Sciences; and Álvaro Gómez Torrado, coordinator of the accreditation process for the Basic Sciences program.
Fabián Alejandro Gómez Torres, Graduate Programs Coordinator of the Department of Biomedical Basic Sciences, shared his expectations regarding the peer review visit: “The goal is to consolidate the program’s high-quality reaccreditation. We hope to improve on the previous accreditation and achieve the 10-year term. We have an extensive visit planned, including presentations on the self-evaluation process, the proposed reform, and visits to the Faculty and its Schools.”
“This is about reaffirming the quality of the Biomedical Basic Sciences program, and we hope that on this occasion we will achieve reaccreditation. Over the years, it has been recognized throughout the University and the region as a high-quality program,” said Fernando Rodríguez Sanabria, Director of the Department of Basic Sciences.
Through this process, UIS continues to advance its commitment to excellence and the comprehensive education of professionals capable of responding to the transformations and challenges facing society.
