UIS and University of Alcalá consolidate bilateral academic cooperation

The Industrial University of Santander (UIS) continues to consolidate its position as a benchmark for internationalization in the region. With the aim of drawing up a roadmap to connect both academic communities and expand opportunities for cooperation, Julio Cañero, Vice-Rector for International Relations at the University of Alcalá (Spain), paid an official visit, a key meeting for the academic future of the institution.

The visit marks an important step in the UIS’s international outreach strategy, which focuses on opening doors for students and teachers to cross borders, strengthen their professional profiles in global environments, and actively participate in high-level academic networks.

Expanding strategic alliance

Liliana del Pilar Castro Molano, Director of External Relations at the UIS, highlighted the importance of the meeting for consolidating existing agreements and opening up new areas of collaboration.

“Today is a day of satisfaction because we welcomed the Vice-Rector for International Relations at the University of Alcalá de Henares, with whom we have been working on agreements in the areas of Physiotherapy and Human Sciences, and now we want to explore new opportunities for engineering, especially in the Faculty of Physical and Mechanical Engineering,” she said.

The director explained that the meeting allowed for progress to be made on extending the current agreement and planning new opportunities for two-way exchanges for students and professors, once the corresponding procedures have been completed. These exchanges would also open up the possibility of participating in European Union Erasmus projects, strengthening research internships, and expanding academic mobility options to Spain and other European countries.

New opportunities for collaboration

For his part, the Vice-Rector for International Relations at the University of Alcalá emphasized that the purpose of his visit is “to strengthen the ties that we have already maintained between both institutions and to see what possibilities for collaboration we have, which are many and I hope will continue to be many.”

The Vice-Chancellor stressed the importance of the University of Alcalá maintaining strong relations with an institution “as prestigious as the UIS,” recalling that joint academic processes have already been developed, such as the defense of doctoral theses by UIS professors in Spain. He also indicated that the University of Alcalá is particularly interested in exploring partnerships in the field of engineering, without ruling out other areas of knowledge, which broadens the spectrum of inter-institutional cooperation.

Agreements in progress

During the working sessions, progress was made on signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU), which will serve as the basis for specific agreements aimed at:

Student mobility: facilitating undergraduate and graduate students to spend exchange semesters at one of the most historic and prestigious universities in Europe.
Faculty exchange: promoting collaboration in research and shared teaching between professors from both institutions.
Scientific cooperation: promoting joint projects that respond to global challenges from the academic world.

UIS, a university without borders

For the UIS, this alliance represents an administrative agreement and a strategic boost to international relations. Collaboration with high-level Spanish institutions strengthens academic quality standards and offers the university community intercultural learning experiences.

The Office of External Relations emphasized that this rapprochement reaffirms the institutional commitment to a global education. With this step, the Industrial University of Santander confirms its purpose of projecting Santander’s talent beyond its borders and consolidating itself as a university connected to the world.
