The UIS welcomed the Palestinian Ambassador to a meeting for reflection and dialogue for peace.

The Solidarity Meeting with Palestine was held in the Agora of the Faculty of Humanities at the Industrial University of Santander (UIS). This academic and cultural event aimed to reflect on the reality of the Palestinian people and strengthen ties of solidarity within the university community.

The event was attended by the Palestinian ambassador to Colombia, Dr. Raouf Almalki, who expressed his gratitude for the Colombian people’s support in the search for peace and highlighted the importance of fostering dialogue that promotes understanding and respect between peoples.

“I encourage people to seek peace and reconciliation, to support any initiative or process that promotes peace, and to support governments in their efforts to achieve it. Peace is what we Palestinians long for most, because we know, like Colombians, what the cost of violence and armed conflict means. That is why we have always sought peace,” said Ambassador Almalki.

For her part, Patricia Mendoza Trillos, professor at the School of Law and Political Science, pointed out that the meeting is part of the Citizen Ethics course, a space that has allowed for critical reflection on the Palestinian case:

“This event is part of the Citizen Ethics course, in the midst of what is happening with the Palestinian people, and has consisted of a continuous deconstruction of concepts and a joint construction of meaning,” said the professor.

The event, held at the UIS central campus, brought together students, teachers, and citizens interested in broadening their perspectives on the situation in the Middle East through discussions and cultural activities.

With initiatives such as this, the University reaffirmed its role as a pluralistic and critical forum, open to the voices of the world and committed to building a more just and supportive society.
