The UIS is holding a faculty recruitment drive and a call for applications for professorships to strengthen its faculty

As a result of Tuesday’s meeting, the UIS Academic Council gave the “green light” to two key initiatives aimed at strengthening its faculty: the launch of a faculty recruitment process under the Formalization Plan and a call for applications to expand the pool of eligible tenured professors.

According to the Vice Rector for Academic Affairs, Olga Mercedes Álvarez Ojeda, “the Academic Council today gave its approval for the Office of the Vice Rector for Academic Affairs to launch the first call for applications for the faculty recruitment process under Decree 1391 of 2025 for labor formalization.”

This process involves hiring thirteen full-time tenured faculty members across seven academic areas, with a focus on teaching. “This means we will open a faculty recruitment process focused on teaching so that professors with extensive teaching experience and an excellent track record can apply and secure tenured positions at our university,” she explained.

The official emphasized the importance of this call for applications for faculty job security: “This is very important because it provides our professors with job security. This promotes academic excellence and also improves our professors’ quality of life by allowing them to secure permanent positions at our beloved university.”

Applications will be accepted from April 22 to 30, 2026, and the process will include stages for verifying eligibility requirements, a psychometric test, a teaching demonstration, an interview, and a resume review. “All the information regarding the requirements, the schedule, and each of the phases (…) can be found on the call for applications microsite on our institutional website,” said Álvarez Ojeda. The list of eligible candidates will be posted on June 22.

The call for applications, part of the Faculty Formalization Plan in accordance with Decree 391 of 2025, aims to strengthen the faculty with professors of high academic standing, promoting retention and excellence in educational processes.

In this same context, the Academic Council also approved the first public call for applications of 2026 to expand the pool of eligible tenured professors. “Professionals who meet the requirements and wish to be part of our UIS community are welcome to apply,” noted the vice-rector.

Applications for this call for applications will be accepted from April 23 to May 7, 2026, until 5:00 p.m., via the university’s microsite. The process includes verification of eligibility requirements, review of resumes, an academic exam, and an interview, with final results scheduled for June 22.

“We invite our professors to participate actively because this call specifically aims to encourage the retention of our university’s best tenured professors,” concluded Álvarez Ojeda.

With these decisions, the UIS is moving forward in building a stronger, more stable, and better-qualified faculty, in response to the challenges of higher education and its commitment to academic quality.
