School of Nutrition and Dietetics contributes to strengthening public policy on food and nutrition security in San Vicente de Chucurí

Reunión de la jornada de asistencia técnica a la Alcaldía Municipal de San Vicente de Chucurí

On Friday, September 19, Lina Marcela Martínez Rangel, a tenth-semester student at the School of Nutrition and Dietetics, accompanied by her internship professor, Ximena Lucelly Sánchez Cortés, participated in a technical assistance workshop at the Municipal Mayor’s Office of San Vicente de Chucurí, as part of her rotation in the area of Public Nutrition.

The purpose of the activity was to learn about and guide territorial planning for food and nutritional security, as well as to strengthen processes related to the progressive guarantee of the Human Right to Food (HRF).

During the session, an HRF vulnerability profile was applied, an instrument that allowed for the identification of the municipality’s current situation and the priority areas on which this territory should focus in order to advance toward the effective achievement of this fundamental right.

In particular, the participation of the School of Nutrition and Dietetics in this type of space reflects its commitment to influencing public policy, contributing technical and scientific knowledge from academia that contributes to the formulation of local strategies with a significant social impact. These actions allow for the coordination of the training of future nutrition professionals with public management processes, strengthening the institutional capacities of local authorities and promoting the implementation of comprehensive Food and Nutrition Security (FNS) policies.

In this way, the School is consolidating its position as a leading academic player in supporting local governments, offering tools that guide evidence-based decision-making and promote the construction of more equitable territories, with greater guarantees for the effective realization of the human right to food.
