Guatiguará Technology Park was the venue for the meeting between the UIS and KAUST of Saudi Arabia

The Industrial University of Santander (UIS) and King Abdullah University of Science and Technology (KAUST) held a high-level meeting on innovation, science and technology, with the official opening of the KAUST-UIS Workshop at the Guatiguará Technology Park.

During the event, researchers, students, academics and professionals from the Industrial University of Santander (UIS) explored joint lines of research focused on mobility for professionals in artificial intelligence, engineering and chemistry. The event represented a new milestone in international cooperation between the UIS and KAUST, one of the most advanced universities in scientific research globally.

Beyond the exchange of knowledge, the meeting opened up concrete opportunities for advanced training, evaluating collaborations in postgraduate and doctoral programmes aimed at Colombian professionals interested in joining high-impact international projects.

In addition, the event sought to strengthen ties between academia and the productive sector, taking advantage of the technological capabilities of the Guatiguará Technology Park’s innovation ecosystem.

Liliana del Pilar Castro, Director of External Relations at UIS, highlighted the importance of this cooperation: “We are at the Guatiguará Technology Park with visitors from KAUST University in Saudi Arabia. We had the opportunity to present our programmes and lines of work in teaching, research, outreach and internationalisation, while KAUST shared its strengths in research, teaching and exchange programmes. This cooperation came about because graduates of the UIS chemistry programme are currently pursuing their doctoral studies at KAUST, and they were the link for this meeting. Graduates are the heart and driving force behind the internationalisation of the UIS.”

With this initiative, the Industrial University of Santander reaffirmed its commitment to the internationalisation of science and the training of human talent to face major global challenges.
