The Coral Universitaria UIS was the special guest at the celebration of the 50th anniversary of the Cantoría de Mérida, one of the most renowned choral institutions in Latin America. The event, held in Merida, Venezuela, featured three gala concerts offered by the UIS Choir in the most outstanding halls of the city, where the Venezuelan public received with enthusiasm and warmth the artistic work of our group.
As part of the academic and cultural exchange, Maestro Juan Manuel Hernández-Morales, conductor of the UIS University Choir and professor of the UIS School of Arts, was invited by Maestro Geraldo Arrieche González to give a master class to the Choral Conducting students of the Universidad de Los Andes (ULA). This activity was developed with the presence of important figures of the Venezuelan choral movement, in a space for dialogue, training and mutual musical enrichment.
The celebration also included the signing of the founding act of the “Venezuela Coral” Association, an initiative that seeks to articulate the work of choral groups and conductors from all over the country. The Universidad Industrial de Santander was mentioned as an international guest of honor, through its artistic and academic representation with the UIS University Choir and its director, which highlights the international recognition of the choral work carried out by the UIS.
This event not only reaffirms the artistic quality and cultural commitment of the UIS University Choir, but also highlights the UIS as a fundamental cultural hub in the northeastern region of Colombia, with projection and active presence in the choral circuits of Latin America.
