The Universidad Industrial de Santander (UIS), through its Institute for Regional Outreach and Distance Education (IPRED), held the 21st UIS Entrepreneurship Meeting. The event brought together students, graduates, entrepreneurs, and business owners interested in strengthening their innovation strategies through artificial intelligence tools.
The event featured the conference “Artificial Intelligence for SMEs: From technological surveillance to competitive advantage,” led by UIS professor Erika Julieth Serrano Rodríguez. During the session, participants explored practical applications of AI for decision-making, process optimization, and business growth.
Artificial intelligence applied to entrepreneurship
According to Ferney Mauricio Calderón, professor at IPRED UIS, these types of events are essential for the professional and entrepreneurial development of students and graduates.
“I believe this event is very important for entrepreneurs, especially students and graduates who are at a key moment in understanding how these tools can help them. Today, artificial intelligence no longer surprises us with new models, but rather with how we can strategically use it to gain a competitive advantage,” he said.
Participants also highlighted the importance of learning about technological tools that can be applied to their businesses and daily activities.
“This event is very important and innovative. It teaches us experiences and applications of advanced technology that we can implement in our ventures, our daily lives, and our careers,” said entrepreneur María Mercedes Archila Pana.
Book exchange and collaborative learning
The meeting also promoted self-learning through a book exchange activity. Participants brought books to share knowledge and discover new perspectives through reading.
Professor Luz Elena Villamizar emphasized the importance of reading as part of the learning process.
“We wanted students to exchange books to generate more knowledge and discover what others are reading and learning from,” she explained.
Training entrepreneurs through IPRED UIS
Javier Alberto Pinzón Torres, academic deputy director of IPRED UIS, highlighted the importance of introducing students to technological tools currently demanded by the business sector.
“It is important for students to begin understanding artificial intelligence within their academic projects and life plans,” he stated.
Additionally, the Universidad Industrial de Santander reminded the community that applications for IPRED UIS virtual and distance undergraduate programs will remain open until June 16. These programs seek to expand access to quality higher education across different regions of the country.
