The Industrial University of Santander (UIS) played a prominent role at the 22nd Colombian Congress of Pulmonology and Thoracic Surgery 2026, one of the country’s most important academic events in the field of respiratory diseases, held in Bogotá and organized by the Colombian Association of Pulmonology and Thoracic Surgery.
The university was represented by medical students Jennifer Zárate, Juan Pablo Delgado, Valentina Rueda, Isabella Pérez, Juan Castañeda, María José Fernández, Catalina Sarmiento, and Angie Muñoz, who served as authors and presenters for 10 scientific research papers developed in collaboration with faculty members, specialists, and residents from various medical fields.
Thanks to this significant academic contribution, UIS established itself as the university with the highest number of papers presented during the event, demonstrating the institution’s commitment to research, knowledge generation, and the comprehensive education of its students.
The studies presented addressed various topics related to pulmonology and provide scientific evidence to strengthen the diagnosis, management, and understanding of different respiratory conditions. They also promote the development of strategies aimed at improving health care and foster the exchange of knowledge within the national scientific community.
The students’ participation was supported and guided by faculty members and researchers from the School of Health, as well as by internists, pulmonologists, and residents who contributed to the development of the projects presented.
In addition to showcasing the UIS’s academic output on a high-level national stage, this experience strengthened skills in research, scientific communication, and interdisciplinary work, reaffirming the University Industrial de Santander’s leadership in training professionals committed to the advancement of science and health.
The Colombian Congress of Pulmonology and Thoracic Surgery brings together specialists, researchers, residents, and students from across the country annually to share scientific advances, clinical experiences, and new perspectives on the treatment of respiratory diseases.
