The School of Social Work of the Universidad Industrial de Santander (UIS) will hold the First International Seminar on Social Work, an event organized in conjunction with the National Council of Social Work – Conets and scheduled for May 7 at the Agora of the Faculty of Human Sciences. Under the slogan “Working life: a reading from the mental health of workers in Colombia”, the event aims to be an academic space for reflection and analysis on mental health in the labor context.
This seminar will include the participation of four distinguished speakers, who will address various topics through audiovisual resources and practical strategies. The main objective is to provide Social Work professionals with tools that will enable them to intervene effectively in their practice, while promoting an approach based on the economy of care.
The First International Social Work Seminar is aimed at practicing social workers, academics, researchers, representatives of governmental institutions and non-governmental organizations, as well as students in their last semester of Social Work. It is expected that this meeting will contribute to the strengthening of mental health and social welfare in Colombia, highlighting the importance of a collaborative and cultural approach in the field of Social Work.
In addition, there will be a discussion that will allow interaction between the panelists and the public, promoting a space to share experiences and clarify doubts. At the end, certificates of participation will be awarded and a symbolic closing ceremony will be held.
Among the objectives of the seminar are the analysis of fundamental concepts of health and mental health, the identification of challenges and psychosocial risks that affect the professional practice of Social Work in Colombia, and the socialization of intervention experiences from a cultural approach. It will also seek to strengthen inter, trans and multidisciplinary work, proposing strategies for the visibility and legitimization of Social Work in mental health.
The structure of the papers will follow a thematic progression that will begin with the definition of key concepts, facilitating their understanding and application in subsequent topics. An international perspective on mental health will be explored, followed by an analysis of public policies and the concept of eco-anxiety in the context of climate change. Finally, clinical Social Work in Latin America, an area of intervention still in the process of legitimization in Colombia, will be discussed.
