With cultural and artistic activities, the UIS will pay tribute to mother and native languages

The Universidad Industrial de Santander (UIS) is preparing to pay tribute to mother and native languages with a series of cultural and artistic activities, as part of the celebration of the International Mother Language Day and the National Day of Native Languages. This event will take place from Wednesday, February 19 to Thursday, February 27, at the UIS Central Campus, offering a space for the university community to actively participate.

The program will begin on Wednesday, February 19 with the Language Fair 2025, which will be held at the UIS Library from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon. At this fair, attendees will have the opportunity to explore various cultural manifestations related to native languages.

On Thursday, February 20, the UIS will screen two thematic films in the Carmenza Landazábal auditorium, from 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 m., offering another perspective on the linguistic and cultural richness of the communities.

In addition, conferences and talks will be held on February 21 and 26 in the morning, where experts and members of the community will be able to exchange ideas and reflections on the importance of preserving and promoting mother tongues.

One of the most awaited moments of the tribute will be the contest that will take place during the week, whose closing and award ceremony will be held on Wednesday, February 26 at 11:20 a.m. in the Carmenza Landazábal auditorium. The contest: The most beautiful word of a native language of Colombia, which will have the following recommendations:

To culminate this celebration, the book “Suma Iuiai” will be presented at the Wellness Library, a work that seeks to highlight the value of native languages and their cultural legacy. The entire university community is expected to participate.
