On the occasion of International Women’s Day, the Specialized Health Unit of the Universidad Industrial de Santander (UISALUD) held a special day dedicated to the physical and emotional wellbeing of its users, in addition to promoting healthy lifestyle habits and highlighting the fundamental role of women in society.

The attendees participated in activities designed to promote self-care and integral wellbeing. These included an informative talk on nutrition given by a health expert, as well as a “rumbaterapia” and a gratitude mural in which participants expressed messages of recognition and gratitude to women.

Rosalba Rivera de Duarte, one of the attendees, highlighted the value of these spaces for meeting and reflection: “UISALUD always surprises us with a special treat on this day. I found a very nice reception, which reminds us of the struggle for equality and the importance of recognizing ourselves. Sometimes we forget our own needs and desires to get ahead, to participate and share. These activities give us back some of that space.

From the health field, Blanca Rocío Rangel Pedraza, a nutritionist at UISALUD, highlighted the importance of maintaining an adequate diet for the wellbeing of women. “Many times, with the daily hustle and bustle, we forget to eat well. We wanted to remind women that there are essential nutrients, such as calcium, iron and protein, that should not be missing in the diet. Deficiency of these can lead to musculoskeletal problems and anemia, so it is vital to include foods such as dairy products, meats, eggs and legumes”.

Rumbaterapia was one of the most awaited activities of the event, taking place during two days, Thursday and Friday, in order to provide greater participation to the attendees. Mayra Alejandra Belandia Romero, physiotherapist at UISALUD and participant of the event, expressed the importance of this activity: “I loved the rumbaterapia. I initially signed up for only one session, but I enjoyed the experience so much that I decided to participate in both days. The instructors guided the activity very well, the music was varied and I noticed an increase in physical demand. It would be ideal for this activity to be done at least once a week, as it is excellent for the cardiovascular system”.
