Artistic talent, technical exploration, and diverse visual languages took center stage at the closing ceremony of the XXVII Salon de Arte Novel, organized by the Plastic Arts Program of the Institute for Regional Outreach and Distance Education (IPRED) at the Industrial University of Santander (UIS). Now in its 27th edition, this initiative continues to provide a platform for showcasing emerging artists and their creative work across the region.

The closing event brought together students, faculty members, and visitors for an academic and artistic gathering that highlighted the importance of artistic creation and educational processes. The program featured a keynote lecture, the announcement of the award-winning works, and the official presentation of the printed publication documenting this edition.

Exploring the connection between editorial design and visual arts

The academic program featured Juan Francisco Carrillo, a graphic designer and researcher with a master’s degree in Editorial Design and Digital Publications. He delivered the keynote lecture ‘Collaborating to Create: A Perspective from Editorial and Visual Practice’.

His presentation explored the connections between editorial processes and creative project management, offering insights into the possibilities for collaboration and dialogue among different disciplines involved in visual creation.

Five artistic proposals receive awards

One of the highlights of the closing ceremony was the announcement of the jury’s decision. The panel consisted of Daniela Serna and Fredy Saúl Serrano Buitrago, graduates of the Plastic Arts Program, and Eugenio Cueto, a faculty member of the same program.

After evaluating the conceptual coherence, technical relevance, and formal resolution of the exhibited proposals, the jury selected the following winners:

  • First Place: Tramas del gesto, by Fanny Jasmin Mogollón Jaimes.
  • Second Place: El camino de las cocadas, by the collective Plan tas tas tas, composed of Jenni Cancino, Divianh Celis, and Nicolai Chaparro.
  • Third Place: Proyecto fachada, by Anderson Serrano Lezmes.

The jury also awarded two honorable mentions: Sobre puesto ‘Lunares de Terciopelo’, by Lizeth Juliana Méndez Jerez, and Enredos terrenales, by Saray Sofía Sánchez Sandoval.

In addition to recognizing the winning projects, the jury congratulated all participating students, highlighting the diversity of visual languages and the high quality of the artworks presented, which reflect the educational and creative development fostered by the IPRED Plastic Arts Program.

A publication preserves the Salon’s artistic legacy

The closing ceremony concluded with the official launch of the printed brochure for the XXVII Salon de Arte Novel. The publication brings together the curatorial text, invited artworks, and highlights from the participatory experience at the Macaregua Gallery.

It also documents the collective efforts of students, faculty members, and support teams who contributed to making this edition possible, preserving a record of the artistic and academic processes behind the exhibition.
