The Universidad Industrial de Santander (UIS) carried out a donation day at the Nieves Cortés Picón school, located in Girón, Santander. During this event, students and officials of the educational institution received computer equipment, laboratory instruments and educational furniture, resources that seek to improve the learning conditions of young people.
“We are thankful for the unconditional support, for the sample that has always had the Universidad Industrial de Santander for general positive social impact, which makes it an emblem at national level for this type of donations” said July Alexandra Suesca, teacher of the Colegio Nieves Cortés Picón.

The day was not only focused on the delivery of donations, but was also accompanied by artistic performances of the group ‘Music and Folkloric Dances UIS’ and students of the school, creating a festive and celebratory atmosphere. This event is part of the “Donations with Social Responsibility” program, a UIS initiative that aims to support public schools and colleges in the country, especially in areas of difficult access, and dignify public education.
“The Donations with Social Responsibility program includes schools and public education entities, so that from the UIS we can contribute a grain of sand by extending the useful life of all the furniture that is in disuse at the university,” said Luz Marina Duarte, Head of Inventory of the UIS.

The attendees expressed their gratitude, highlighting that this donation marks a before and after in the students’ school life. Many of them used to attend computer classes sitting on the floor due to the lack of adequate equipment. With this new equipment, it is expected that the students will have access to better learning conditions, which will undoubtedly have a positive impact on their academic training.
David Rodríguez Massa, tenth grade student highlighted that “it is incredible what they donated because they are in very good condition, such as computers, headphones, tables, and chairs, everything in general”.
The UIS thus reaffirms its commitment to education and social development, contributing to the construction of a more equitable future for all young people in the region.
