Certification from multinational confirms the excellent work environment at UIS

Elizabeth Duarte Arenas, project director of the Great Place to Work Institute in Colombia

Good news for the Universidad Industrial de Santander. After a measurement that included a survey of more than 1200 employees and professors of the UIS, the international firm Great Place to Work certified that our university is at a very satisfactory level in work environment, which makes it an attractive employer in the country and also an example to follow, thus contributing to make Colombia a better country for everyone.

The Great Place to Work seal is a global benchmark that measures and evaluates the experience of employees within the company, using surveys and advanced analysis that they fill out directly, which is why it legitimizes the practices from the point of view of the collaborator and shields the possibility of being influenced by external agents.

The news was announced during the extended Academic Council held this Tuesday morning. Elizabeth Duarte Arenas, project director of the Great Place to Work Institute in Colombia, was in charge of giving details about this certification.

“The Great Place to Work certification is a recognition to companies that have a good result in their work environment (…) basically it is an instrument that is applied to employees in an organization so that they can give their opinion about how they perceive their work environment. If the employees’ opinion meets the institute’s standard, they are recognized and acquire their certification”.

For a company or institution to be eligible for certification, it must meet a certain standard. “Specifically, the result of the UIS in the work environment, already seen with the country valuation, is in a very satisfactory stage, which is a result that is above the usual range of the country context.”

Great Place to Work focused on five specific areas: the leader’s connection; the value proposition that the organization has in terms of development; fairness, that is, how criteria of equity and justice are applied when defining policies, practices and when making decisions; social connection or companionship, the relationship between people; and the pride felt for the work, for the team and for the organization.

According to the results, the UIS is a very attractive employer, showing interesting policies and practices, with relationship dynamics that go towards excellence. The challenge, according to Duarte Arenas, “is to maintain a very good work environment because we believe that the work environment should be managed as a competitive advantage in organizations”.

UIS employees were pleased to receive this news, which shows that they feel proud of the university, that they want to work here for a long time and that they recommend the institution.

“This measurement is important because it allows us to position ourselves, because it allows us to measure our work environment in general, and therefore requires a commitment, not only to continue to maintain it, but also to improve. It really offers us many challenges in relation to us as leaders, in self-regulation and also to our work teams”.

The certificate awarded confirms that the UIS has spaces where the policies of inclusion, sustainability and well-being have been effectively integrated into the organizational culture. The recognition validates the commitment to sustainability, inclusion and the creation of a work environment oriented to high performance and well-being.
