UIS professor imparts his knowledge on anaerobic digestion in Montevideo, Uruguay

Professor Liliana del Pilar Castro Molano with other teachers in Montevideo, Uruguay.

Liliana del Pilar Castro Molano, professor at the School of Chemical Engineering of the Universidad Industrial de Santander (UIS) and director of the Office of External Relations, is in Montevideo, Uruguay, teaching specialized classes on anaerobic digestion as part of an international training program on energy transition.

“These classes are aimed at postgraduate scholarship students from different Latin American countries. The focus is on energy transition, and in particular, I will address anaerobic digestion in cold and rural areas as an alternative to the use of firewood for cooking,” explained Professor Castro Molano.

Her participation in this program was possible thanks to a scholarship granted by the Latin American Center for Biotechnology (CABBIO), in recognition of her academic career and contributions in research related to sustainable energy.

“Professor Claudia Echeverry, from Uruguay, invited me to be part of the teaching consortium that would submit a proposal to CABBIO on energy transition. After the agency’s evaluation, we were selected to teach until May 16,” she added.

The experience has been highly enriching for the UIS professor, who not only shares her knowledge, but also takes the opportunity to learn about advances in biotechnology from colleagues at other institutions.

“In this course I have a dual role: as a teacher and researcher, and as part of the audience, to learn from the biotechnological developments presented by other teachers. In addition, as director of the Office of External Relations, I will present the mobility programs offered by the UIS, with the aim of attracting more international students to our university,” she concluded.
