As part of its commitment to mental health, the Universidad Industrial de Santander UIS began implementing a community-based rehabilitation model focused on primary health care. This approach favors early detection and a comprehensive approach to emotional disorders through the Listening Center, a space designed to provide support to the educational community.
In line with this initiative, the Human Talent Management Division launched a series of workshops on basic Psychological First Aid (P.A.P.) skills, which began in March. Both students and teachers have responded to the invitation to participate in psychoeducation that seeks to strengthen the community’s ability to deal with crisis situations.
Psychological First Aid consists of a set of tools and knowledge that enable people to help others feel calmer and more empowered during emergencies. This initial care is aimed at restoring emotional and physical stability to those going through critical times.

Acquiring P.A.P. skills is crucial to learn how to assess situations, understand people’s possible reactions to crises, and know how to approach someone at risk. In addition, participants gained essential information on when and how to activate the emergency care pathway for mental health-related medical emergencies at the university.
The program will continue in April, expanding the participation of professors and students, with the objective of continuing to strengthen prevention and promotion actions in mental health. This effort reflects the importance of building an educational community that is more aware and prepared to address the emotional challenges that may arise in the academic environment.
