On March 20, 2025, during the 72nd version of the General Assembly of ACOFAEN, Colombian Association of Faculties and Schools of Nursing, which brings together all the deans and directors of Faculties, Schools and Nursing programs in the country affiliated to the association, the new president was elected for the period 2025-2028.
This is Wilson Cañón Montañez, a graduate of the Nursing program of this house of studies in 2004; and a graduate of the Master’s program in Epidemiology, UIS in 2011.
“I thank the Faculty of Nursing of the University of Antioquia for the institutional support and backing. I assume the presidency of ACOFAEN with a deep sense of commitment and responsibility, understanding the relevance of the association in consolidating the quality of nursing education in Colombia. This is a challenge that motivates me to continue working to strengthen training, research and advocacy in leadership for the development of public policies that positively impact our profession and the country’s Health System,” said the UIS graduate.
One of the strengths that the graduate commented has allowed him to achieve these professional accomplishments has been the comprehensive training provided by the UIS, based on academic excellence, critical thinking and leadership. “During my training at UIS, I learned the importance of professional ethics, research, innovation and offering comprehensive care as fundamental pillars for the advancement of nursing. In addition, the sense of service and the transformative vision that I acquired at my alma mater have been decisive in my professional development and will be key in the management that I undertake at the head of ACOFAEN,” said Wilson Cañón, new president of the association.
