The Universidad Industrial de Santander is committed to the diagnosis and care of the university and the Santander community in general and has continued its efforts to reduce the effects of the pandemic with a strategy to identify positive cases of SARS-CoV-2.
Since January 2022, UIS has offered weekly spaces for taking and processing samples free of charge to the university community (students, professors, administrative staff, and alumni), as well as to the external community.
The purpose of these days has been to reduce the effects of the impact of the Omicron variant. To date, on March 8th of this year, 2,450 samples have been taken, of which 448 have shown positive cases. UIS expects to continue testing during the first half of 2022. “The performance of RT-PCR tests for SARS-CoV-2 in saliva by the Universidad Industrial de Santander during the month of February allowed the identification of 430 cases (out of 2,019 samples processed) in the Santander community. This contributed to the reduction in the transmission of SARS-CoV-2 during the fourth epidemic outbreak experienced by the department, “said Anyela Lozano, coordinator of the LCI of the UIS.
