UIS arrives in Guaviare to open new opportunities for higher education

As part of its commitment to reaching more territories—especially those where geography and socioeconomic conditions make access to education difficult—the Universidad Industrial de Santander (UIS) has begun a new initiative in the department of Guaviare, as part of the national University at Your School strategy of the Ministry of National Education.

UIS Territorial Outreach Coordinator, Jorge Villamizar, arrived in San José del Guaviare after three attempted landings due to bad weather, fulfilling his commitment to the community to bring relevant, high-quality higher education to this region of the country.

On August 11, activities are taking place at the Concentración de Desarrollo Rural (CDR) Educational Institution, where principals from both urban and rural schools, together with the Departmental Education Secretariat and the Ministry of National Education, are working to build alliances to reduce gaps in access to higher education.

The agenda, which continues on August 12, includes community meetings to present the academic offerings, visits to schools proposed for the program, finalizing commitments, and inspecting the site for a possible university campus project in this department.

What is University at Your School?
It is a strategy that connects accredited public universities with public educational institutions in remote areas of the country, offering technical training starting in high school, guided by university professors and adapted to local conditions. Its objectives include reducing access gaps, strengthening the transition from secondary to higher education, building territorial alliances, and fostering scientific, technical, and technological vocations among young people from historically marginalized communities.
