In an effort to support first-year students, the Listening Center of the Universidad Industrial de Santander (UIS) has launched the “Tatkii” strategy, which means “take the first steps”. This initiative, designed especially for those students coming from remote areas of Bucaramanga, took place yesterday afternoon with the objective of facilitating their adaptation to academic life.
The “Tatkii” strategy consists of six meetings that promote mutual support and social work among the new university students of the Physicomechanics and Physicochemistry faculties. Through these meetings, the aim is not only to reduce the impact on the mental health of students, but also to mitigate the risk of academic desertion, a common challenge at this stage of training.
During the first session, participants were able to share their experiences and receive guidance on how to face the challenges of starting their university life. In addition, it is a process of cooperation and joint work between the Listening Center, Student Welfare and the Academic Excellence System (SEA) to address specific cases that require attention, thus contributing to the integral development of the attendees.
With the implementation of the Tatkii Group, the Listening Center reiterates its commitment to students, promoting more inclusive and supportive university environments. This initiative represents a significant step in the promotion of mental health and academic success within the UIS, reaffirming the importance of adequate support in the first steps of university life.
