Under the title “Here and Always,” Artes Plásticas UIS presents the degree projects exhibition for the first semester of 2025.

The Sala Macaregua is one of the venues showcasing the 2025-1 degree projects of the programa de Artes Plásticas from the Instituto de Proyección Regional y Educación a Distancia, IPRED,  at the Universidad Industrial de Santander.

“In this exhibition, the future maestros y maestras en Artes Plásticas, bring their creative processes to life through diverse perspectives, interests, and artistic media, based on the premise of art as a temporal and sensitive expression of the human condition,” explained program professor Roger Díaz Carreño.

“Window Infested with Bugs” by Néstor Andrés Castro Ariza, expanded painting technique.

The work seeks to raise awareness about human transgression in the natural landscape. Through a dreamlike landscape composition inhabited by insects that play with perspective, the artist portrays biodiversity from a personal point of view. The insects, symbols of the ecosystem’s fragility, establish a metaphorical relationship with humanoid sculptures that climb toward the painting.

He adds that “the exhibition features 17 diverse artistic projects, developed through research-creation approaches, each rooted in the unique interests of the students. These students have embraced art as a horizon of free representation, and their material explorations express their view of life’s world.” Four of these projects are on display at the Sala Macaregua.

“Nothing Like a Mother’s Love” installation by Paula Andrea Paredes Rueda, with a medieval aesthetic.

Various techniques and media were used by the students to create the “Here and Always” exhibition, highlights Professor Díaz Carreño, including installation, painting, textile art, video art, performance, drawing, printmaking, and sculpture.

“Street Vendor” by María Paula Niño Ravelo. Printmaking, installation.

He notes that “some pieces directly address social issues such as forced displacement, informal labor, ecological destruction, and the importance of cultural heritage; others focus on the everyday and the body as spaces of resistance, or on intimate experiences of memory and dwelling as the basis for aesthetic expression.”

“The Street Vendor” by Nicolás Santos Ramírez, urban artistic intervention using Paste Up technique.

Professor Díaz Carreño concludes by emphasizing that “each work and each gallery installation not only marks the completion of a five-year academic process but also embodies the students’ efforts to create artistic proposals that express their concerns and aspirations in a creative and meaningful way.”

From Monday to Friday, between 8:00 a.m. and 12:00 p.m. and 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m., the exhibition room at the Sede UIS Bucarica is open to the public interested in discovering and admiring the creations of this new generation of artistas plásticos UIS.

It is also worth mentioning the “Here and Always” is featured in other galleries, including: Casa Cuatro Colectivo in Girón, Casa Luis Perú de Lacroix, the Colombo Americano Center and the salas Rafael Prada Ardila and Gustavo Gomez Ardila at the campus central UIS (first floor of the Auditorio Luis A. Calvo).
