The Penultimate Dinner: an artistic and cultural feast at the Universidad Industrial de Santander

What began as a small student bazaar has become a true day of creation, expression and memory. “La Penúltima Cena”, organized by students of the Universidad Industrial de Santander (UIS), is emerging as one of the most significant cultural activities of the year within the university life. This event, open to all citizens, invites you to immerse yourself in a full day of art, reflection and community.

The appointment is at the central campus on May 30 from 10:00 a.m., where the traditional spaces of the UIS will become living galleries, musical stages, open workshops and meeting points for artists, students, entrepreneurs and citizens in general.

A day designed from the heart

The original idea emerged as a space to share and create a comfortable environment among students. However, thanks to the passion and commitment of its organizers, who are or were students of Visual Arts of the Institute of Regional Projection and Distance Education – IPRED, the event grew to become a comprehensive cultural proposal that highlights the creative and social diversity of the university community.

“The Penultimate Dinner” is not only an art exhibition, but a collective experience that intertwines historical memory, entrepreneurship, artistic pedagogy and activism, through a rich programming.

Program:

– Emerging exhibition IPRED-EMA (10:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m.): more than 40 artists, students of IPRED and the Escuela Municipal de Artes de Bucaramanga (EMA), will exhibit works under the curatorship of Marcell Bohórquez. A space to vindicate emerging art that usually does not find a stage.

– Craft market (10:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m.): a space for entrepreneurship by students, mothers who are heads of households and local collectives.

– Treasure hunt: historical memory of the student movement (10:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.): playful and pedagogical activity led by Valentina Lobo to reflect on the history of student struggles.

– Photo-embroidery workshop (10:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.): taught by Ada Tolosa, from UIS Social Work, to explore new artistic techniques.

– Discussion: risks of cannabis consumption and launching of the campaign “Activism for hemp” (2:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m.): moderated by William Calderón and Kuy Mora, who starts his cycling activism project to Bogotá.

– Origami workshop (3:00 p.m. – 4:30 p.m.): with Santiago Tojas, from IPRED, an invitation to discover the art of folded paper.

– Open microphone (4:30 p.m. – 5:30 p.m.): for those who wish to speak and express themselves freely.

– Closing concert (6:00 p.m.): a musical evening with local artists such as Catarsis (performance), Oso Andino (reggae), RCC (rap), La Honda de David (acoustic), Marabel (soloist), Sin Límite (carranga) and Policarpa (rock), which will provide the finishing touch to this cultural festival.

A gift to society

“La Penúltima Cena” is presented, in the words of curator B. Marcell Bohórquez Gualdrón, as “a banquet of creation,” a space where art is not enclosed within walls, but opens to the community as a tool for connection and transformation. “Each work exhibited is a story, a vision, a feeling,” says Bohórquez, who emphasizes that this meeting is, above all, a collective gift from and for society.

This event reaffirms the university’s public vocation and its commitment to art as a means of social expression. The invitation is extended to all those who wish to experience a day where creativity, memory and participation are the protagonists.

The Penultimate Dinner awaits you!
