The sounds of the Caribbean, Andean, Pacific and other regions are present at the Universidad Industrial de Santander during the Colombian Music Festival that takes place during this week.
This event has stood out for paying tribute to the Santander maestro Luis A. Calvo and promoting culture among the university and external community.
On the second day of the program, the presentation of the Bogota trio ‘La Perla’, formed by Karen Forero, Roberta Leono and Diana Sanmiguel, stood out. This group is inspired by the traditional sounds of the Colombian Caribbean and draws on other rhythms such as Dominican merengue, champeta, punk, hip hop and beat box.

“This university is wonderful with the natural environments that are there and happy to play for the first time in this Festival. It is important that the UIS opens the door to bands of different genres and it is good to have this cultural ally to access other spaces, that makes us happy,” said Giovanna Mogollón, member of La Perla and whose stage name is Roberta Leono.
Local talent was also present thanks to the group Expresión Musical UIS (Emuis) with a recital in the format of string and wind instruments that took the audience on a sonorous journey through the Andean Region.

“The experience is enriching, it is a pride to represent the UIS in topics of Colombian Andean music, these spaces promote this type of music, which is important because it is our identity as Colombians”, Carlos Roldán, student of the Bachelor’s Degree in Music and member of Emuis.
This Friday the 34th edition of the Colombian Music Festival will end with a concert of llanera music and a show by the Rolling Ruanas.
