With the start of the second academic semester, the UIS Library has reactivated its book lending service for students who have completed their enrollment, making it easier to access bibliographic resources through its self-checkout machines.
The self-checkout stations have been updated so that members of the university community can borrow books independently by simply logging in with their institutional username and password, without assistance from library staff. This streamlined process makes borrowing faster and more efficient.
The self-checkout machines are available to students, faculty members, and administrative staff, providing access to a collection of approximately 65,000 printed books distributed across the different UIS campuses. Of these, around 61,000 volumes are housed at the Central Library, 4,000 at the Faculty of Health Library, and nearly 1,000 more are available at the Floridablanca Campus and the Student Welfare Center.

In addition to providing access to bibliographic materials, the UIS Central Library continues to offer spaces designed to support learning and academic development. Its facilities include study rooms, individual study booths, hammock areas, and other environments that foster a comfortable setting for comprehensive education.
The UIS Library also reminds the university community that books borrowed through the self-checkout machines may be taken home. Each user may borrow up to four books for a maximum period of 15 calendar days.
Sonia Cristina Gamboa Sarmiento, Director of the UIS Library, encourages users to return borrowed materials within the established deadlines or, if needed, request a loan renewal before the due date. Doing so helps avoid fines while ensuring that books remain available for other members of the university community.
