The Student Wellness Office at the Industrial University of Santander (UIS) commemorated World Health Day with a talk titled “How to Live a Healthy Sexuality,” led by Bernardo Useche Aldana, a psychologist and Ph.D. in human sexuality who has dedicated his career to the study of sexual health from a holistic perspective.
During his presentation, the expert addressed the importance of living one’s sexuality fully and responsibly, highlighting aspects such as sexual rights, diversity, and the need to establish an ethical framework for sexual behavior.
“Talking about sexuality involves recognizing its individual and social dimensions. It is essential to promote a responsible, conscious, and respectful approach,” noted Useche Aldana.
One of the central themes of the talk was the relationship between sexual health and mental health, a reality that significantly impacts the youth population.
“Sexual health issues are often closely related to mental health. Strengthening a healthy approach to sexuality can contribute to the physical and emotional well-being of young people,” added the speaker.

The participating students appreciated the content of the session and emphasized the importance of creating these opportunities for learning and reflection within the university setting.
“I think it’s very important for the university to promote these kinds of sessions. They allow us to learn, reflect, and make responsible decisions regarding our sexual health,” said Fernanda Sandoval, a social work student.
For her part, Valeria Forero, a student in the Bachelor’s program in Literature and Spanish Language, emphasized: “It is essential that these topics be addressed at the university, because they are part of our comprehensive education as professionals and as individuals.”
Through initiatives like this, Student Wellness continues to promote educational opportunities that contribute to the overall well-being of the university community.
