What impact do centers of interest have in the educational field? This was the question that was reflected on in the III Colloquium of Research Practice ‘The U in the school’, an academic event organized by the School of Education of the Faculty of Human Sciences of the Industrial University of Santander, UIS, in which participated the professionals Lida Cataño, and Rubén Castillo, Psychosocial Coordinator and Pedagogical Coordinator, respectively, of the Presidential Program Sounds of Peace, PSCP-UIS.
“The objective of this academic meeting is to generate a space for the scientific dissemination of knowledge, dialogues and research proposals built within the framework of the subjects Observation, Immersion and Research Practices of the Bachelor’s degree program in Elementary Basic Education at UIS,” explained Juddy Amparo Valderrama Moreno, a teacher in the program.
Due to the focus of the Colloquium, the professionals of the dynamic table of the Sounds for Peace Building Program, currently implemented by the UIS in 233 educational establishments in the departments of Santander, Norte de Santander, Bolivar and Cesar, which were targeted by the Ministry of Cultures, Arts and Knowledge, with the support of the Ministry of Education, shared with the attendees the experiences, achievements and challenges that have occurred during the implementation of the Program in the 99 municipalities of the Northeast of the country.
One of the achievements that has been evidenced since the implementation of the PSCP-UIS is that the Program has contributed to peaceful coexistence and social fabric in the student community, as explained by Rubén Castillo, Pedagogical Coordinator, “Music works as a resource to mediate and strengthen behaviors based on empathy and assertive communication in students, who during the moments of musical training are able to identify elements that unite them as a community”.
Likewise, Lida Cataño, Psychosocial Coordinator of the PSCP-UIS, added that: “during the participation in the musical training moments, students strengthen the learning processes, especially affecting attention, memory, motivation and sensory perception, aspects that contribute significantly to the other areas of the curriculum. Likewise, emotional education is promoted based on the recognition and management of emotions, a component that is accompanied by the psychosocial team of the Program”.
Rocío Villarraga, tutor teacher of the PTA/FI 3.0 program of one of the schools in the municipality of Floridablanca that are part of the PSCP-UIS, who participated in the event, highlighted the positive achievements of the PSCP-UIS and assured that school coexistence has improved significantly among students.
