Students of the Zootechnical and Forestry Engineering programs of the UIS Malaga Campus represent the institution at the UIS Research Fair, which takes place in the city of Bucaramanga.  This event, organized by the Vice Rector’s Office for Research and Extension, seeks to promote scientific and academic dissemination through the socialization of innovative projects developed by students and teachers.

For the Animal Science program, students Laura Fernanda Meléndez and Alejandro Ortiz Méndez, members of the Biotechnology and Food Safety Research Semillero – BIOSAN, will present the project entitled: “Diversity and distribution of Basidiomycota fungi with potential zootechnical use in Malaga (Santander) and surrounding areas”, under the guidance of Professor Luisa Mendoza.

“I feel proud to present our work and share our findings with other researchers, students and professionals. The fair was a perfect space to exchange ideas, receive feedback and establish connections with people who share similar interests. I enjoyed seeing the diversity of projects and topics that were presented, and how our research connected with other fields and disciplines. It was exciting to see the interest and curiosity of people who approached our booth and asked about our project. I particularly enjoyed the opportunity to talk about the importance of Basidiomycota fungi in the ecosystem and their potential use in zootechnics. I found it fascinating to see how our research could have a positive impact on society and the environment,” said Laura Meléndez, Zootechnics student.

Likewise, the Forestry Engineering program is represented by students Andrea Carolina Monguí, Ivonne Torres and Julián Quintero, members of the SIDENDROS Research Semillero, who are socializing the classroom project: “Aprovechamiento Forestal – Maqueta 1:25 Explorador Andino”, guided by Professor Ronald Montañez Valencia.

In this regard, Professor Montañez highlighted this type of events that allow disseminating what is being done from the regional headquarters.

“The dissemination of academic initiatives in research under forestry engineering criteria such as scale models, biomaterials, timber waste management and climate change, reinforces the applications from the classroom in interdisciplinary environments such as research fairs and seedbed meetings”.

The participation of the UIS Malaga Campus in this type of scenarios highlights the institutional commitment to research training, innovation and integration of knowledge for the benefit of rural communities and the natural environment.
