The Arauca Governor’s Office announced a new investment in sports facilities and urban development works that will complement the academic infrastructure of the Universidad Industrial de Santander (UIS) in Saravena.
The Arauca Governor’s Office will invest more than COP 7.412 billion in the execution of Works Contract No. 485 of 2026, which includes the construction of sports facilities and urban development works for the Universidad Industrial de Santander (UIS) University Campus in Saravena.
The presentation of this new investment was attended by the Governor of Arauca, Renson Martínez Prada, and the Mayor of Saravena, Juan Ignacio Cifuentes. Representing UIS was Jorge Villamizar, UIS Territorial Development Manager, who presented an overview of the project’s progress and infrastructure needs.
The new project includes sports courts and recreational areas, pedestrian pathways, green spaces, electrical installations, stormwater drainage and water and sanitation networks, as well as a pedestrian bridge made of metal. These works will complement the academic facilities and help strengthen the conditions for education, sports, and the well-being of future students.
During the presentation, Villamizar highlighted the importance of having complementary infrastructure to ensure the campus operates as an integrated facility.
“The development of the Saravena University Campus requires not only academic facilities, but also all the complementary infrastructure needed to guarantee appropriate conditions for the university community,” said Villamizar.
Phase I Progresses
According to the UIS presentation, Phase I of the campus is being developed on 1.4 hectares and currently includes 4,200 square meters of built area, out of a projected total of 6,200 square meters, as well as 500 meters of pedestrian pathways.
The facilities include 10 classrooms with capacity for 40 students, four classrooms with capacity for 24 students, six computer rooms, and six laboratories.
UIS also reported that, in preparation for the start of classes scheduled for February 2027, the campus will need to have its permanent electricity, sewage, and water supply networks in place.
With this new investment, Saravena is moving forward with the development of a university campus designed to provide young people in the region with appropriate spaces for their academic education, sports activities, and overall well-being.
