The municipality of Mercaderes, located in the department of Cauca, recognized the Universidad Industrial de Santander (UIS) and its School of Law and Political Science for its valuable support in strengthening the local justice system, through training processes aimed at leaders of the region.
Through Resolution No. 508 of December 27, 2024, signed by Mayor Edilson Gómez Balanta, the municipal administration praised the UIS for its commitment and contribution through the agreement that allowed the execution of the diploma course in Conciliation in Equity, aimed at community representatives of this population. The purpose of this initiative was to train leaders for the peaceful management of conflicts, promoting fair solutions and respectful of human rights within their territories.
According to the resolution, thanks to the academic support of the University, the participants acquired the necessary skills and tools to act as conciliators in equity, thus contributing to the construction of a culture of dialogue and understanding in their communities.
Additionally, through Resolution No. 510 of the same date, the mayor paid tribute to the first 38 graduates of the diploma program, who successfully completed their training and today are key agents for the promotion of peace and harmonious coexistence in Mercaderes.
With this recognition, the UIS reaffirms its commitment to the territories, bringing knowledge and social transformation strategies that contribute to strengthening local capacities for the peaceful resolution of conflicts.
