May 8: World Day against Ovarian Cancer

This May 8 marks the World Day against Ovarian Cancer, a date that aims to expose one of the most lethal and silent diseases affecting women in the world.

According to the National Cancer Institute of Colombia, approximately 2,414 new cases are diagnosed each year in the country, and 80% of them are detected in advanced stages, which significantly reduces the chances of successful treatment.

Ovarian cancer presents non-specific symptoms such as pelvic pain, abdominal swelling, urinary changes and a feeling of rapid fullness, which can be confused with other conditions. Therefore, early detection is key to saving lives, according to the National Association of Physicians of Colombia if this disease is detected early reaches a survival rate of 94% if identified early.

From UISALUD we invite all women to listen to their bodies, attend their medical check-ups and act responsibly in the face of warning signs. Women, taking care of yourself is also an act of love.
