Good news, the Universidad Industrial de Santander obtained the qualified registration for its new Artificial Intelligence Engineering program, becoming the second university in Colombia to offer this program, after the Universidad de Caldas, and the first in eastern Colombia to lead this academic bet.
Through Resolution 009089 of May 7, 2025, the Ministry of National Education authorized UIS to offer this innovative program in classroom mode at the Bucaramanga and Barrancabermeja campuses, expanding access to training in one of the areas with the greatest projection in current technological development.
“This was an articulated work of the University, the Institute of Regional Projection and Distance Education, the Barrancabermeja headquarters and the School of Systems Engineering, to be able to deliver this program to the city of Barrancabermeja and the city of Bucaramanga. A program that is aligned with national policies, with international policies and that also aims to deliver technological development in the country and in the region,” said Andrés Mauricio Montes Tenorio, coordinator of the UIS Barrancabermeja Campus.
The official document highlights that the program will have 128 academic credits, semester admission and an estimated duration of eight semesters, with 40 students admitted per cohort at each site.
The Ministry emphasizes that the UIS has institutional accreditation in high quality for 10 years, granted in 2022, which supports its ability to offer innovative programs with high standards of academic training.
This approval positions UIS as a leading institution in the educational transformation oriented towards the digital future of the country, contributing highly qualified talent to strategic sectors of the economy.
In addition, the program joins the country’s efforts to integrate emerging technologies in the academic and productive sphere, at a time when artificial intelligence is consolidating as a key driver of economic, social and scientific development.
If you wish to take this program, enrollment begins this May 14 and the publication of those admitted will be announced on June 27.

The requirements are: to have the Icfes tests up to date, higher than 31 points in all areas of performance and have the desire to continue to improve themselves”.
