Faculty of Health joined the commemoration of cervical cancer prevention day

As part of the celebration of the “World Cervical Cancer Prevention Day”, in the facilities of the Scientific Complex for Health and Life Sciences Research, the “Symposium. Breaking the silence, what we all should know about the Human Papilloma Virus, HPV”.

With the presence of the Secretary of Departmental Health, Edwin Antonio Prada, and the Dean of the Faculty of Health, Professor Lina Maria Vera Cala, the academic activity began with the purpose of educating about prevention, raising awareness and encouraging vaccination against the HPV virus.

The Gardasil 9 vaccine is free of charge for men and women between 9 and 17 years of age. HPV infection is highly prevalent in men; 1 in 3 men worldwide may be infected with HPV.

Human Papillomavirus infection is a risk factor for different types of cancer:

95% of cervical cancer cases
90% of anal cancer cases
70% of cases of vaginal, vulvar, oropharyngeal or throat cancers
60% of penile cancer

Men and women over 18 years old and up to 45 years old, can also be vaccinated assuming the cost of the vaccine.
