The Industrial University of Santander stood out at the 17th Colombian Congress of Neurology and the 2nd Latin American Congress on Headaches, organized by the Colombian Association of Neurology (ACN), by taking second place in the research papers category (oral presentation).
The award was given for the research paper titled “Chagas Seropositivity in Ischemic Stroke: Greater Neurological Severity and Cardioembolic Damage in Santander, Colombia,” a study that examines the relationship between Chagas disease and ischemic stroke in the population of Santander.
The following individuals participated in this study: Dr. Iván Mauricio Peña Castellanos, a neurologist and assistant professor in the Department of Internal Medicine; Dr. Laura Marcela Rey, a resident in the Internal Medicine program; Dr. Claudia Lucía Figueroa, a full professor in the Department of Internal Medicine; and medical students Simón Rincón Hernández and José Daniel Molina.
This recognition highlights the UIS School of Health’s commitment to research, academic training, and the generation of knowledge in areas that impact the region’s health, as well as the collaborative work among faculty, residents, and students.
