Participation in women’s and men’s basketball strengthens integration, well-being, and the university spirit of the UIS community.
From August 20 to 25, 2026, Barranquilla will host the 6th ASCUN DAF National University Staff Games 2026, an event that brings together staff members from the country’s higher education institutions to promote sports, integration, and university well-being.
Representing the Industrial University of Santander (UIS), faculty members from the School of Health Sciences are participating in the women’s and men’s basketball competitions, demonstrating values such as discipline, camaraderie, commitment, and teamwork in every game.
The UIS teams are led and supported by Mónica Suárez León, a professor in the Department of Physical Education and Sports, who is responsible for training and guiding the teams participating in these national games.
The Faculty of Health delegation includes faculty members from various academic units, among them:
• Mayra A. Machuca Pérez, School of Microbiology.
• Martha Yaneth Rodríguez Núñez, School of Physical Therapy.
• Carlos Javier Avendaño Vásquez, School of Nursing.
• Wilman David Salguedo Olivero, Department of Public Health, School of Medicine.
The participation of faculty members from different disciplines within the School of Health also represents an opportunity to strengthen ties among the Schools of Microbiology, Nursing, Medicine, Nutrition and Dietetics, and Physical Therapy, fostering opportunities for integration that extend beyond the classroom and academic settings.
These games provide a platform to promote healthy lifestyles and the well-being of staff members, as well as to strengthen relationships among colleagues and foster a sense of belonging to the institution.
Through their participation in the 6th ASCUN DAF 2026 National University Staff Games, UIS faculty members bring to Barranquilla the spirit of a university that views sports as a tool for building community, promoting well-being, and strengthening institutional values.
The School of Health celebrates the participation of our faculty members and recognizes the leadership of Coach Mónica Suárez León, who proudly represent the UIS at this important national sporting event.
