School of Microbiology Celebrates 68 Years of Education and Research in the Service of Health

Día del microbiólogo

The School of Microbiology within the Faculty of Health celebrated Bacteriologist, Microbiologist, and Bioanalyst Day with an academic and networking event focused on the One Health approach, a vision that recognizes the connection between human, animal, and environmental health.

The celebration held special significance as it coincided with the 68th anniversary of the creation of the Microbiology and Bioanalysis program at the Industrial University of Santander, formerly known as Bacteriology and Clinical Laboratory, which began operations on May 19, 1958, and is now established as one of the leading programs in education and research in the health sector.

During the event, students, faculty, researchers, and alumni participated in academic conferences, interdisciplinary dialogue sessions, research and innovation presentations, as well as the “Thesis in 3 Minutes” activity, where projects and scientific advances were shared in a dynamic and accessible manner.

The event also provided opportunities for reflection on topics related to vector-borne diseases, agricultural systems, public health, and sustainability, promoting the integration of knowledge from the comprehensive perspective of the One Health approach.

Currently, the program offers a Master’s degree in Microbiology and is recognized for its commitment to academic excellence, scientific training, and the advancement of research. In addition, it received a 10-year high-quality accreditation, a recognition that affirms its track record, impact, and contribution to the country’s scientific and social development.

The commemoration also served as a tribute to the bacteriologists, microbiologists, and bioanalysts who, through their work in laboratories, research, and professional practice, contribute daily to the protection of life, disease prevention, and the strengthening of health systems.

With this event, the School of Microbiology reaffirms its commitment to comprehensive education, the generation of knowledge, and the building of academic communities that work toward a more connected, sustainable, and humane healthcare system.
