A forum in Floridablanca provided an opportunity to hear proposals from the candidates for student representation on the Academic Council

The academic community at the UIS Floridablanca campus welcomed the three candidates participating in the process organized by the General Secretariat of the Industrial University of Santander to elect the new student representative to the Academic Council for the 2026–2028 term.

During an open forum, the candidates presented their proposals and addressed concerns raised by students in the Biomedical Engineering, Data Science Engineering, and Cultural and Creative Business Administration programs.

“I feel that this is a space we really needed to get to know the candidates running for the Academic Council and thus identify which of them has the best qualifications to take on this role,” said Gina Maritza Moreno, a Biomedical Engineering student.

The candidates registered for this process are Esteban Yesid Puerta Corzo, a student in the Economics program; Daniel Eduardo Naranjo Garzón, from Mathematics; and Nicolás Fernando Martínez Sandoval, from Mechanical Engineering. The student who is elected will join the highest academic authority at the Universidad Industrial de Santander.

“These meetings help us better understand the importance of making the right choice. The new student representative will be responsible for voicing our concerns and advocating for our needs before the Academic Council. We’ve heard some interesting proposals, and each candidate brings different qualities and skills to the table,” said Sebastián Mendoza, a student in the Cultural and Creative Business Administration program.

According to the schedule established by the University, voting to elect the new student representative to the Academic Council will take place on Thursday, May 14, between 8:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m., via the institutional website.
