This monday, april 28: voting day for the UIS 2025–2028 Rector appointment process

The Universidad Industrial de Santander informs the entire university community that this Monday, April 28, the voting day for the Rector Appointment process for the 2025–2028 term will take place.

Voting will be conducted virtually, between 8:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m., through the institutional website:
https://www.uis.edu.co/elecciones/acceso_votacion/acceso1.jsp

The student, faculty, administrative, and alumni groups are eligible to participate in this voting process, in accordance with the guidelines set by the University Council.

Every vote counts. The weight of each vote varies depending on the group:

  • Tenured faculty: 30%
  • Students: 30%
  • Adjunct and part-time faculty (including IPRED tutors): 15%
  • Administrative staff: 15%
  • Alumni: 10%

Once the digital ballot closes at 4:06 p.m., the vote-counting process will begin, overseen by the Oversight Committee to ensure transparency and the legitimacy of the results.

What happens next?
After voting concludes, a list of up to three candidates who have surpassed the minimum threshold (0.10%) will be compiled. However, there is an important condition: if the difference between the first and second place is significant (greater than or equal to 0.20), only the most voted candidate will move on to the final stage.

The University Council makes the final decision
With the final list prepared, the University Council will be responsible for electing the new rector. A qualified majority is required to make this decision—at least 6 out of the 9 Council members must vote in favor.

UIS invites the entire community to actively participate in this important democratic exercise, which will define the institutional path for the coming years.
