UIS advances in land management to strengthen its academic and welfare infrastructure

SAE's Central-East Territorial Director during a meeting with the UIS Rector.

Blanca Cecilia León Velasco, Central-East Territorial Director of the Special Assets Company (SAE), visited the Universidad Industrial de Santander (UIS) and met with the Rector, Hernán Porras Díaz, and the engineer Luis Eugenio Prada Niño, a professional from the Rector’s Office, to finalize details regarding the delivery of new properties for institutional strengthening.

During the meeting, they also followed up on the successful use of the current location of the student residences. This space houses more than 65 young people, including international students.

“The objective of the meeting was to concretize key issues and continue advancing in everything in which the SAE can support the UIS. One of the most important buildings is located in the center of Bucaramanga, and it is planned to be used by the School of Social Work, so that its students can develop internships with the communities,” said León Velasco.

In addition to this building, which will directly benefit professional training in Social Work, the University is in the process of acquiring four additional buildings to meet research, academic and welfare needs.

“We are working on the acquisition of land for the creation of a kindergarten, in alliance with the ICBF, to care for the children of our students; a coworking space for graduates; a property in the Cañaveral sector for a macro project; and a property in Barrancabermeja that will be used for the development of energy transition pilots,” explains Luis Eugenio Prada Niño.

During the event, the SAE highlighted the social and academic impact of the transformation of the building that today houses the student residences, headquarters 2, an example of the proper use of recovered assets.

“This property underwent a significant transformation. Previously seized for various reasons, today it provides a decent home for students from different regions of the country, which represents a real commitment to inclusion and access to education,” said León Velasco.

The directors of the UIS received these statements with satisfaction and reiterated their commitment to the continuous improvement of the living conditions and training of its university community.

“These alliances motivate us to continue working for a stronger, more inclusive university committed to regional development. Shared achievements will always be a source of pride,” concluded Prada Niño.
