UIS Celebrates Journalist Day paying tribute to Gustavo Pardo

Periodistas de Barbosa en celebración del Día del Periodista

As part of the 77th anniversary celebration of the Universidad Industrial de Santander (UIS), the Barbosa campus hosted a heartfelt event in honor of Journalist Day, providing a space to recognize the tireless work of communicators who, through their dedication, strengthen democracy and contribute to the development of society.

Tribute to Gustavo Pardo: A Life Dedicated to Words and Community

This year, the celebration took on a deeper meaning as it paid a well-deserved tribute to Gustavo Pardo, a distinguished figure in regional journalism and radio broadcasting. His voice has been the echo of the community—informing, educating, and connecting people through the airwaves.

From his early days at La Voz del Río Suárez, through La Voz del Carare, Radio Furatena, and many others, Gustavo Pardo built a legacy defined by ethics, commitment, and an unwavering passion for journalism. But his impact extended far beyond the microphone; he was a community leader who championed numerous cultural, sporting, and social initiatives, leaving an indelible mark on every town and city his message reached.

His talent and dedication made him a fundamental part of the country’s radio history. He was the creator of iconic programs such as “Mi tierra en coplas” and “Viva la radio”, and played a crucial role in strengthening community radio stations like Hit Stereo. His voice not only narrated the history of his people but also inspired them to build a better future.

Recognizing the Vital Role of Journalism

During the ceremony, in addition to honoring Gustavo Pardo, UIS also presented recognitions to journalists and media outlets from Barbosa, Vélez, and Moniquirá, who have supported the university’s work and served as key allies in sharing information that drives regional development.

UIS reaffirms its commitment to journalism and communication as fundamental pillars of social progress. Through events like this, the university continues to strengthen its ties with the press and promote the responsible practice of information.
